BriefCombining the best from two worlds
GARDENA already had a pre-existing online advisor for the Micro-Drip-System. Customers had to complete a short questionnaire before a suitable starter set was recommended. But, this solution did not allow for individual adjustments. However, the existing solution served as the basis and was further developed and optimized by Ergosign. Our goal was to create a digital product advisor that recommends customers a Micro-Drip-System, that precisely fits their needs with just a few questions.
ApproachReducing complexity
With the Micro-Drip-System, customers have countless options for customizing the automatic irrigation system to their garden thanks to many different components. This large number of components can be overwhelming — so support in selecting the right parts is required, which is where the new digital product advisor comes in. After answering just a few questions, users receive a shopping list with the ideal products.
Therefore, our most important task was to reduce the complexity of planning the automatic irrigation system for customers and still recommend an individual micro-drip system. For our team, this meant translating the complexity in the backend, due to numerous detailed and nested decision paths, into an understandable, visually appealing UI. Custom-designed icons and illustrations for GARDENA paved the way to success.
OutcomeThe digital product advisor: Always where you need it most
The result is a lightweight digital product advisor that supports customers in putting together their micro-drip system. This not only makes it easier to get started with the complex topic but also promotes the purchase decision, as digital advice reduces uncertainty on the customer side. This delights customers and is good for the environment. Because the more customers decide in favor of the Micro-Drip-System by using the intuitive configurator, the more plants will be watered optimally —saving up to 70 percent of water.
We approached the design and development of the digital product advisor with a "mobile-first" focus because it would support customers where they need it most: directly at the point of sale. To ensure this, there is a QR code on the shelves of the Micro-Drip-System in the DIY store, which customers - but also on-site consultants - can use to access the configurator. Of course, the product advisor can also be used conveniently from home via desktop, tablet, or smartphone.
